Veteran talent is often approached as a special initiative rather than an integrated business strategy. This session reframes military talent as a critical workforce advantage and equips HR professionals with practical tools to attract, translate, and retain veteran employees.

Participants will gain a working understanding of the military ecosystem, including key transition timelines and decision points that impact hiring. The discussion will focus on translating military experience into business-relevant skills and implementing proven practices that foster a veteran-friendly culture while reducing attrition.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the military ecosystem and hiring timelines
  • Translate military experience into business-relevant skills
  • Apply best practices to build a veteran-friendly culture and retain veteran talent

Presented by Robin Johnson

Robin Johnson leads Boeing’s Military-Connected and Veteran Program, where she champions veterans, service members, and military spouses by shaping pathways onto the Boeing team and driving an integrated, enterprise-wide approach to the military-connected experience. A retired U.S. Army officer with over 20 years of service, Robin’s career includes five combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and command at both the company and battalion levels. Her transition into talent sourcing and pipeline development began during assignments at the Pentagon, where she helped launch transformative efforts like the DoD SkillBridge program and spearheaded policy reforms expanding career access for transitioning service members and military spouses. Following military retirement, Robin founded her own consulting firm focused on workplace culture, leadership development, and strengthening veteran and spouse talent pipelines. Above all, Robin loves to laugh—and to make others laugh. She was voted Charleston’s Best Comedian in 2022 and has performed around the world as a stand-up comedian with Armed Forces Entertainment, is a Certified Humor Professional through the Association for Applied & Therapeutic Humor, a TEDx speaker, and a Veteran Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. When not at work or on stage, Robin can be found enthusiastically cheering on her kids from the sidelines—offering bold interpretations of the rules and trying not to get ejected for excessive spirit.
