The presentation covers the interconnected topics of burnout, moral injury, and loss of self. It explores the causes, symptoms, and consequences and will offer some practical strategies for individuals and organizations to overcome these challenges and promote well-being and resilience.
 
Learning Objectives:
 •    Understand the impact of burnout, moral injury, and loss of self: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of these concepts, including their definition, causes, and consequences, and recognize their significant impact on individuals and workplaces.
 •    Differentiate between burnout and moral injury: Participants will learn to distinguish between burnout and moral injury, understanding the unique characteristics and effects of each, enabling them to identify and address these issues more effectively.
 •    Acquire practical strategies for personal well-being: Participants will learn practical techniques to combat burnout, including self-care practices, boundary setting, seeking support, and engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment, promoting their own well-being and resilience.
 •    Explore strategies for addressing moral injury and restoring purpose: Participants will discover strategies for addressing moral injury, such as reflection, values exploration, self-forgiveness, and finding opportunities for positive impact, helping them restore their sense of purpose and personal integrity.
 •    Promote a culture of well-being and self-care in organizations: Participants will understand the role organizations play in preventing burnout and moral injury, and explore strategies for creating supportive work environments, including communication, work-life balance, training, and recognizing and valuing employee well-being.
 
The goal of the presentation will be that everyone has a deeper understanding of burnout, moral injury, and loss of self, and will be equipped with practical strategies to combat these challenges personally and within their organizations. They will be empowered to foster resilience, restore purpose, and create healthier work environments that prioritize well-being.

Richard Davis, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CLMS has over 30 years of human resource management and executive leadership experience. Richard began his HR career with Hill-Rom as an Employee Relations Manager. He has also served as Vice President of Human Resources for Valdosta, GA based Barnes Healthcare Services and Chief People Officer for SIB Fixed Cost Reduction in Charleston, SC. Richard was also an entrepreneur and formed HirePowerHR where he provided human resource consulting and executive recruiting. Richard currently serves as the Director of Human Resources for Atlas Technologies, Inc., a Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) specializing in full life cycle support of mission critical, military Enterprise IT solutions to the United States Navy and Coast Guard. Atlas is headquartered in North Charleston, SC and has offices in Alexandria, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; and San Diego, CA. He received his business degree and MBA from The Citadel and is credentialed as a Senior Certified Professional by SHRM, a Senior Professional in Human Resources by HRCI, and as a Certified Leave Management Specialist by the Disability Management Employer Coalition.
