The Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Codes serve as the national standard for categorizing workers based on their specific job roles. South Carolina stands at the forefront as one of the pioneering states, taking proactive measures to gather data that enhances decision-making and outcomes for employers, jobseekers, and the overall economy. This valuable information aids in identifying current and future workforce needs, addressing gaps, and facilitating the exchange of crucial insights. The integration of two new fields, Standard Occupational Classification codes and the number of hours worked, into quarterly wage reports marks a significant step. This initiative not only bolsters the state's workforce development but also enhances its responsiveness to industry requirements by providing comprehensive workforce information.  This virtual meeting will help to navigate the hurdles of compliance in preparing for the changes.

Paul Famolari

Paul Famolari is the Assistant Executive Director for Unemployment Insurance (UI) at the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW). He has been with the agency for over 16 years and has served as Senior Legal Counsel and a UI Policies and Procedures Manager before directing the UI program.

Mr. Famolari has a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a Juris Doctorate from the George Mason University School of Law. He has represented DEW in court cases and presented as a UI subject matter expert for the General Assembly, and he is committed to supporting the stability of South Carolina's workforce and communities by ensuring the UI program is administered effectively and efficiently.
