In this enlightening presentation, participants will learn to appreciate what it is like to live (and function) with hearing and/or vision loss while performing daily tasks.  They will gain an awareness of readily available options to enhance communication and clarity when conversing with a member of the Deaf / Hard of hearing community and they will learn critical elements of deaf culture to take into consideration.

Jewel Sweeney is the executive director of EASE (Equal Accessibility & Support Everywhere) Inc. She has a BA in Deaf Studies, where her focus was on interpreting. While working through her coursework, she felt led to refocus her attention on starting a nonprofit dedicated to working with the hearing to better understand the deaf / hard of hearing community. EASE’s mission is to encourage, inspire, and empower the community at large to proactively address accessibility through education and advocacy. Throughout the past year, Jewel has collaborated with numerous organizations in the Lowcountry to provide accessibility awareness and professional development sessions for both employers and employees to bring accessibility to the foreground.
